Welcome to The British Association of Anger Management

The British Association of Anger Management was launched in 1997 as a direct response to a vast need for anger management services severely lacking at the time. This was initially driven out of personal need as much as it was a response to the continual public demand we were receiving from our London-based therapy centre, Room For Growth, at the time. To this day, we believe that anger and stress management is in even more demand than what it ever was, as the world gets increasingly uncertain, and as such we find ourselves continually committed to doing this work each year. In 2018 and 2019 we were given the UK Excellence Award for Best Mental Health service by Corporate Vision magazine.

Having initially trained in the United States in anger management, we returned to the UK and combined therapeutic processes from a range of different models bringing, what we believe, to be the best programme available in the country. Over the years our influences have included primarily person-centred psychology, CBT processes and psycho-dynamic work. We are continuously involved in this work and investigate any new developments and trainings that arise. Hence, as a result, we further our own training in Trauma and Mindfulness models and as such continually adapt our programmes.

Over the years, we have explored different avenues to make anger management accessible across the country. In 2010, we launched the Beating Anger Franchise model training anger coaches across the UK to facilitate our unique method of training. Whilst the Franchise model proved to be ineffective we continue to train professionals in our Aggression Prevention Training model. Access to information on this training can be found here.

Whilst our head office is based in West Sussex, we offer courses alternately in: East Grinstead, London, Bristol and Manchester. Please visit our course schedule page for a full diary of events.

We deliver support and programmes in all aspects of anger, stress and conflict management. Our courses are available for the general public, young people, government bodies, corporations, the educational sector, personnel / H.R management, trainers, counsellors and anyone dealing with their own or another’s anger.

We believe we have something for everyone. From individual support, workshops, seminars, bespoke packages through to career professional development training with certification as well as online programmes.

We are regularly invited to contribute to the media with interviews, press articles as well as documentaries.

Our book ‘Beating Anger‘ written by Mike Fisher has sold well over 65,000 copies since publication in 2005. In fact, it was voted as being within the Top 10 Best Self-Help books by Dr Cecilia d’Felice of The Times newspaper, 2013.

In June 2012 Mike Fisher’s second book, ‘Mindfulness & the Art of Managing Anger‘ was released by Leaping Hare Press and has been translated into Spanish.

Over 20,000 people have come to us feeling discouraged and unable to cope with their anger since 1997. 82% of previous attendees found that the anger management course helped enormously even after 18 months. 100% of attendees said that they would suggest our courses to others.

We are recognised as the leading body in the UK for anger management and we do ongoing work with the Ealing Borough of London, Probation Services, Court Services, HR Departments and Social Services.

Our most popular programmes remain the highly successful intensive weekend’s Beating Anger 2 (BA2) – designed for individuals with limited schedules or whom live abroad and our ten-week Beating Anger online (BA1) course presented via the video chat platform zoom (2.5 hours once a week for 10 weeks, 7:00pm to 9.30pm).

BAAM also offers one-to-one work for individuals, couples and families. If you are in any doubt which course of action is best for you then you can always do an initial assessment with our Founder and Training Director Mike Fisher.
