Mike Fisher on the Shed Talks Podcast
BAAM founder ‘Anger Guru’ Mike Fisher appeared on the Shed Talks podcast from author and filmmaker Jeremy Thomas earlier this month.
In this episode titled, “Explode or Bury,” Thomas interviews BAAM’s founder Mike Fisher, a renowned psychotherapist and author of “Beating Anger: The Eight-Point Plan for Coping with Rage” as well as “Mindfulness and the Art of Managing Anger”. The podcast delves into various aspects of anger management and how individuals can effectively cope with their anger and channel it into positive energy.
During the episode, Thomas and Fisher have a personal and thought-provoking conversation about the different types of anger, triggers, and practical management techniques. They discuss the difference between being an imploder or exploder and how shame can affect the expression of anger. Even the condition, dysthymia, gets mentioned whereby Mike recognised how many years he had actually suffered from low-threshold depression. They explore anger’s physiological and psychological aspects, discussing how it affects our bodies and minds. ‘Anger styles’ get a mention whereby anger can get masked behind certain behaviours or even capitulating into sadness and how even grief can play it’s role in anger.
Thomas and Fisher also examine anger in a broader social context, discussing how it is portrayed in the media, how it can be used negatively to manipulate people, and how it can be a transformative force for social change when harnessed effectively.
With its engaging guests, practical advice, and thought-provoking discussions, “Shed Talks” is a valuable resource for anyone interested in personal growth and self-improvement. The “Explode or Bury” episode, in particular, provides a great starting point for individuals seeking to manage their anger in a constructive way and lead a more fulfilling life.
Host Jeremy co-produced the Emmy Award winning BBC documentary Stephen Fry – The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive and co-wrote the popular- A-Z Guide to Good Mental Health with Dr Tony Hughes.
